A distinctive feature of the soils of Montenegro are accumulations of terra rossa in its coastal area. This red soil is a product of the weathering of dolomite and limestone rocks. 

It also is found in depressions in the Karst. In mountainous areas above the plateaus are typical gray-brown forest soils and podzols.
